A Glee-ful teenager

Oh my goodness.

Somehow, someway, I have become the mother of a teenager.

Wasn't I just a teenager myself? Was it really that long ago that I wore armfuls of rubber bracelets ala Madonna & had big permed hair? Where are those Swatch watches & Flashdance-inspired sweatshirts? Ferris Bueller? Anyone? Anyone? Seriously? That was 25 years ago? Oh heaven help me!

It is official. My daughter is 13 today.

We had her birthday party this past Sunday. She wanted a Glee party. So I had to get into gear to make the big 13 special for her. (Photos are not the best quality, ugh!)

I made the two colorful banners of characters.

Lots of pictures for the walls.

Have to have some of those hilarious quotes.

Not sure if you are a Gleek, but this was the Glee food table (not to be confused with the real food table, of which I did not take a picture.)

We had Mercedes' tots

Lauren Zizes' Raisinettes

Sue Sylvester's Cheerios

Breadstix (The Glee Club's favorite restaurant)

And since no Glee episode would be complete without the Glee Club getting slushied, I made slushie cupcakes.

And cheesecake. She wanted cheesecake. Oh man. Look at it. Not a crack to be had! I think this might have been the first time I made a cheesecake without some sort of crater crack forming.

My Glee-ful teenager, taken this morning, officially 13 years old.

She is amazing in so many ways. Can't imagine life without her.

(And...since I can't resist a weather cheap shot---13 years ago today, when she was born, it was a balmy 85 degrees. No lie. 85 degrees on March 31, 1998. Don't think we'll ever see that again.)

Bunnies all in a row

As Easter is less than a month away, I decided to begin decorating. There's nothing like decorating for Easter when it's 20 degrees outside!

Okay, that was sarcastic. Sorry. I apologize for the neverending bitter posts about the weather. Winter, although technically Spring, will do that to you sometimes.

Moving on.

I wanted to display my Nicol Sayre bunnies on my dining room hutch this year.

I added a few jars filled with pastel colored goodies along with some cute (& cheap) little dishes from Target to hold votive candles.

Topped off with my Easter egg wreath from last year...a simple Easter display.

I will be linking this up at Marty's for Tabletop Tuesday. If you've never checked out Tabletop Tuesday at Marty's, you should do it. You won't be disappointed. I'm also linking this to Kate's Spring party at her Censational Girl blog.

So tell me. Have you decorated for Easter yet?

I used to think that people who ironed things, for instance, pillowcases, were either:

A) Absolutely out of their minds

B) Just plain bored with nothing better to do with their time

Snap, Crackle & Pop

It's been quite a while since I've tried my hand at a tablescape. My first one, which I named, Mangia Mangia, was back in July 2010.

This second tablescape was a long time coming because honestly, my family looks at me as though they may want to commit me to an insane asylum when I'm setting a table for no reason at all. :D (What can I say? Non-bloggers...they just don't get it!)

I would like to welcome you to breakfast with Snap, Crackle & Pop.

The Rice Krispie plates came from TJ Maxx a few years back.
I used my everyday white dinner plates & mugs, along with my everyday Oneida flatware.

I'm linking this at Susan's blog Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday.

Thanks for stopping by. The weekend is almost here!

And just because I can't resist the urge to complain a is snowing right now. Ugh!

Spring Cloches

I have been getting my house ready for Spring, ever so slowly. It didn't feel much like Spring here until this past week. The temps warmed up into the 40s (hurray!) & a few days of sunshine (hurray again!), mixed with a few of rain, melted quite a bit of that nasty white stuff snow. It's not completely gone, but I do see more grass than snow, so at least I know we're getting closer.

Edited to add: I typed this post up last night. This morning, it's currently snowing :(

I spent some time playing with my cloches over the weekend, trying to decide what to display under them.

(I had a hard time photographing these, so I apologize for the glare from the glass.)

I ordered this cute little bird in a teacup from The Baker's Daughter on Etsy. Her name is Jubilant Juliet & I love her in all her sparkly prettiness.

This tall cloche, from Wisteria, gave me some trouble. The shape of it made it difficult to display anything. I bought this foil wrapped bunny at Joann's & he fit perfectly. I love how it reminds me of the chocolate bunnies that I would find in my Easter basket as a kid. They don't make chocolate bunnies look like this anymore, I wonder why?

I also bought this little Easter pail at Joann's. I filled it with some robin's eggs & under the cloche it went.

Since I'm crazy late to link this to Marty's Cloche Party, I guess I will link it to her Tabletop Tuesday party instead, which I hope is ok.

Thank you for visiting me today & I hope you have a fabulous week!

Cookie days

There are some days when you just need a cookie.

A cookie can make everything right in the world.

I am having one of those days.

Can I interest you in some sour cream marble cookies?

My Spring Mantel

On Saturday, I thought it might be a good idea to take down my Winter mantel & get going with something more Spring-like. My hope was that in decorating for Spring, I would send some good karma out there & bring Spring weather to us sooner.

That plan sooo did not work! Between Sunday & into Monday, about 18 inches of snow fell.

Anyhow, Spring has indeed inhabited my living room mantel even though it is still quite Winter outdoors. Sigh.

Surprisingly, I didn't have to buy too much for the mantel. I had the lamp, the bird cage & the clock. I had the sconce too. It was sitting in the box for almost a year, just waiting to be used for something.

I made the wooden sign myself, inspired by Pottery Barn. I purchased the urn, Spring blooms, birds & wire candle holders. All came from Michael's and with sales & coupons, I spent about $45. Not too bad being that my mantel is huge & needs alot to fill it. (79" inches long, 18" deep)

I am linking this over at Women Who Do It All for the Spring Mantel Party, at a A Stroll Thru Life for Tabletop Tuesday & Between Naps on the Porch for Metamorphosis Monday.

Wishing a lovely Spring-filled weekend to each of you...

C'mon Spring, I'm waiting for ya!
