Red, White & Blue

We are in the midst of a heat wave

to rival all heat waves!

I'm not sure how to handle it,

we aren't used to it around here. 

Below freezing, we can handle, 

98 degrees, not so much.

I've come to the conclusion that I enjoy 

decorating for the 4th of July.   

I've also come to the conclusion that I enjoy it 

because I really like the colors of red, white & blue.  

There's something about them...

Patriotic Mantel (4th of July)

My goodness, where is the time going? 

It's hard to believe that June is almost over! 

We're still running around with baseball, 

 but look forward to enjoying Summer 

and the beautiful weather we're having.

I thought with the 4th on its way,

it might be time to show some

patriotic spirit with a 

4th of July mantel!

This mantel came together quickly 

and with everything that I already had on hand.

Do you remember I used this sign last year on

my dining room hutch?

I made it out of the left over slats from my mom's window blinds.

What is it about red, white & blue that I love so much?

I told myself that I wasn't decorating for the 4th this year.

No way, no siree, I'm not doing it!

My daughter had all 4 of her wisdom teeth removed on Friday and I've spent the weekend playing nurse to her.  The weather has been simply gorgeous (finally) and here we've been...inside for days.

I guess I should mention that I'm not going to win any Clara Barton awards.  The patient told me I fell asleep once while sitting with her.  lol 

Anyway, sitting inside, playing nurse, led me to decide that I would, in fact, decorate for the 4th.   After all, I only have one little box of decorations, what's the big deal? 

 

While visiting my mom earlier in the week, she had just shortened her new window blinds.  I spied the discarded blind slats and decided to bring them home should inspiration strike me.

 

It struck me alright.  I decided to make this sign from the slats:

  

4th of July is an easy holiday to decorate for, especially when your kitchen colors are red & blue.  I just pulled some stuff from the kitchen shelves.

 

 Pretty checked & polka dotted pitchers filled with patriotic picks & straws.

 



 

 Dollar Tree horns look festive in a red pitcher.  

 



 

I used some dotted bowls I had too...to hold my wicker stars from Pier 1 and also flipped upside down to give that silver star a little more height.

I'm glad that I decided to decorate for the 4th.  Let the festivities begin!

Three Cheers for the Red, White & Blue Tablescape

I'm always so surprised with how quickly the 4th of July arrives each year.  It probably has something to do with the fact that we get out of school so late in June, that we're barely out & it's already July 4th!

I just had to play with my dishes, I couldn't resist.  So here comes my tablescape...Three Cheers for the Red, White & Blue!



I found the cute bowls at Target in their Dollar Spot.

I have had the tablecloth & placemats for many, many years.  Blue napkins, red plates and wicker stars are all from Pier 1.  Luncheon plate is Corelle.  Dotted Glasses are from Target. 

And then there is my star spangled flatware!  I purchased this on ebay last Fall.    I got such a great deal on it, the cost of the shipping was more than my winning bid for the actual flatware!  I think I danced around the computer that day because I was so happy that I got a deal for once.  lol   

Simple white hydrangeas in a patriotic bowl.  I added star picks for a little sparkle.  

I just had to take this last picture because I thought it was funny how my Meyda Tiffany light matched the whole red, white & blue theme.

Waving the Flag (4th of July Decor)

I can't believe it has taken me this long to decorate for the 4th of July!  I think I had my decor up in early June last year.  I guess I've just been too busy to think about it until today.

I  don't have much to share, but I thought I'd show you my (newly painted) hutch all decked out for the holiday.

I've love the way a bunch of flags look "planted" in an urn.  Of course, I just had to include my favorite little bicycle too.

I bought the blue shutter at a garage sale on Saturday for $4.00.  It's actually a phone stand, but my head shouted  patriotic decor  from the minute I saw it.

This is actually a serving bowl that I bought a few years ago at Kohls.  It normally houses my pasta salad on the 4th, but this year it's housing my wicker stars from Pier 1.

I have to admit, I do love red, white & blue decor.  Will you be decorating for the 4th of July (or Canada Day) this year?

Debbiedoo's Copycat Challenge, Patriotic Style

It's time for another Copycat Magazine Challenge hosted by Debbiedoos!

I took my inspiration from Romantic Homes magazine, June 2012.

No, I did not copy that gorgeous room on the cover! 

Isn't that incredible though?

I chose something quite a bit simpler.

I really liked the votive holders embellished with vintage brooches

on the top of this page.

However, as much as I love those vintage brooches,

 I decided to give mine a little patriotic style. 

After all, we have the 4th of July coming up,

not to mention cheering for the

red, white & blue

in the upcoming Olympics.

(I love watching the Olympics!)

I knew just who to call to pull off this patriotic look too.

One call to Mom brought her to my door, within 15 minutes,

bearing a box of patritotic pins in assorted styles.

That woman has everything and is beyond awesome! ♥

Just starting to get a few things ready for our 4th of July bash.





It's a beautiful sun-filled day here and I thought I'd take a moment out (before it gets too hectic) to wish each of you a Happy 4th of July!

Uncle Sam on Display

Here we are in our first full week of summer vacation (finally!) and I thought it time to put together a little something for my dining room hutch in honor of the old red, white & blue.

I don't believe I have ever decorated for the 4th of July (indoors) before. Limited though my patriotic decor may be, I managed to put something decent together.





I bought Uncle Sam when Bayberry Cove was having a 50% off sale. Isn't he cute? The bottle brush trees also came from Bayberry Cove.



The red, white & blue stars are from Pier 1. White pail from Michaels.





The big white star is from Joanns, as are the hat votives.



I made this paper pennant from stuff out of my scrap stash. I love when all the money spent on scrap crap is actually put to use elsewhere.
