New Years & Winter Hello

Hello dear friends!
Happy New Year!

I can't believe I'm actually here, on the old blog, posting something.
I have to admit, I'm a little rusty at all of this.

Winter is upon us here at Random Thoughts Home.
If you need proof, I will oblige....
this was taken this morning.

A good day to stay in with a warm blanket & a good book.

I have a few photos to share today.

The winter mantel is ready for the season.
It's always so hard to decide what to do after taking
away all the Christmas decor.

Blue & white color palette...texture added with
fuzzy pillows, trees & pinecones.

The dining room hutch & sitting room got a touch of winter, too.

I had a little fun with my Winter bird collection.

Wishing you many blessings in the New Year!

Oh Winter!

Winter.

What can I say?
I'm developing a love/hate relationship with Winter.
I don't hate it, but I'm kind of sick of it, too.

This happens to me every year.
Trouble is I find it happens earlier & earlier every year,
which is not good considering we have a long way to go yet.

Ok, no more complaining.

Here's some Winter around the house...

I think my next posts will be about Valentine's Day.

I'm going to adopt my oldest sister's attitude which is...
Put away all the Winter decor & think Spring!

Sounds like a pretty decent plan, don't you think?

Winter Mantel & Living Room 2018

Good morning all!

This has been one heck of a Winter, hasn't it?
When I checked my phone yesterday at 8am,
we were looking at a temperature of -12 degrees.
Factor in the wind chill & it felt like -23 degrees.

Crazy.

We've been using our fireplace more than ever.
It just makes you feel so cozy to have a fire going,

especially at night while relaxing & watching TV.

I went with gray & white for my Winter decor.
Such a change after the bright colors of Christmas!

Everything here is stuff you've already seen before...
except for the wreath, that's new.
I found it after Christmas at Pier 1 and
thought it was perfect for Winter.

My ladder from Decor Steals.
I love it.

A little Winter for the coffee table.

 Maybe I should rethink
my chalkboard sentiment.
I think it started snowing the second I put it up!

Have a wonderful week, my friends!

Winter Mantel 2017

Happy New Year, friends!
I may be a few weeks late with the wishes, but they are sincere.

Today, I thought I would share my Winter mantel.
If you are a fan of Gilmore Girls,
you might really enjoy it.
If you are not a fan of Gilmore Girls,
hopefully you will enjoy it anyway! :)

I found the poster on Etsy and I just couldn't resist.
Stars Hollow, Connecticut...
the fictional hometown of Gilmore Girls.

I love the blue grey wooden snowflakes.
I found them at Lowe's after Christmas and had to have them.

I added a strand of snowflake lights for a little light in the evenings.

I hope you are all staying warm & cozy this Winter.
See you soon!

Winter Vignettes

Hello friends!

Winter is in full swing.
We were lucky this time though, the big storm passed us by.
What a nice change!
We always get hit by the big snowstorms.

I'm sharing some winter vignettes from around my house.
I'll keep the chit chat to a minimum.
Grab something warm to drink & enjoy!

Winter Mantel 2016

Happy New Year, friends!

We are bracing for "a significant Winter event,"
as they like to say on the news.
I know this best as a BIG SNOW STORM!
We shall see what develops.

Honestly, up until right now,
we really haven't had much in the way of typical
New York winter weather.
I guess we've been lucky...so far.

Now that all the excess of the holidays has been
stored away until November,
I took the opportunity to get my Winter on
with a very simple mantel.

It all started with the wreath from Lowe's.
I found it after Christmas and I thought I heard it scream,

"Buy Me! I'm not just for Christmas, I'm for Winter, too!"

Obviously, I listened.  I'm glad I did,
because I love it.

See the white metal houses?
Guess what?
They also screamed,

 "Buy me!"

Again, I listened.

Lowe's needs to tell its merchandise to quiet down.
Perhaps I should get my hearing checked?

I do love how they look lit up at night...kind of magical, actually.
I should have taken a photo for you.

I added some mercury glass votives & pinecones to break
up some of the white, but overall, it was the simple, pared down,
Winter look I was going for.

Do you decorate for Winter?

♥♥♥

If it is Winter-like where you live,
stay warm!
Otherwise, enjoy your nice weather!

Snow Day Tablescape

I thought I'd share a tablescape with you today.

Welcome to the Snow Day...

I started with a snowflake tablecloth from Kohls.

The snowman salad plates are from QVC.
They are by Rachael Ray
and just perfect for this time of year.

I added my everyday white Corelle dinner plates
and some white chargers.
The chargers are from the Oneida Ltd. outlet.
(I miss that store.)

My gingham flatware is from Spiegel, many moons ago.
(Do you remember Spiegel?  I used to devour that catalog
and want to buy everything in it!)

I bought the snowman napkin rings on Ebay a few years back.

A couple of snowmen friends
from my large collection were added as a centerpiece,
followed by my mercury glass votive candle holders.

And that is that...sweet & simple!

Stay warm dear friends!

Winter Scenes Around the House

Winter, which, being full of care,
makes summer's welcome thrice more wish'd,
more rare.
-William Shakespeare, Sonnet LVI

And just who am I to argue with Will??
 ♥♥♥

I have shared my Winter Mantel
and my Winter dining hutch with you,
so keeping in the Winter frame of mind,
I thought I would share some
Winter scenes from around my house....

I have to honestly say,
I'm not completely sick of Winter...
yet anyway.

Once blogland erupts with sunshine filled photos
& gardens bursting to life,  I'll have had enough of
Winter.  (All the while, knowing full well
that we'll still have quite a ways to go
before we experience the same.)

Wishing you a happy day!
