Thanksgiving Chalkboard and the Love of Pumpkin Pie

Happy November!

Can it really be November already?

Time sure does fly by.

I thought I'd drop in quickly today to share my
dining room chalkboard with you.
She's all set for Thanksgiving...

Although I'm no artist,
I had some fun with this one.

Mind if I share a short story?

As I was on my step stool, chalking away,
my husband yells from the other room,

"In the time it's taking you to draw that pumpkin pie,
you could have made a pumpkin pie."

Then upon completion of my "masterpiece" I hear,

"It looks nice, but it could have looked
even better if it came with an actual
pumpkin pie."

He's like living with a comedian, I tell you!!

The question now is...
Should I make him wait until Thanksgiving Day
for pumpkin pie or not?
Hmmm.....

Eat, Drink and Be Thankful

Just wanted to quickly share my dining room chalkboard with you.
I think it pretty much sums up the Thanksgiving holiday to a T.

Don't you agree?

Wishing you the happiest of Thanksgivings!

It's all about Thanksgiving (vignette & some Etsy love)

I'm sharing a coffee table vignette today and it's all about Thanksgiving.

You see, I've got Christmas on my mind,
but I'm bound and determined to give Thanksgiving its due.
Even if I'm listening to Christmas music as I type this.
I really love Christmas music.

Mostly everything I used in this vignette, I've had for years.

Some close ups & details:

I used my favorite bird cage that I know you've all
seen dozens of times,
an orangey rust votive from Target,
and Mr. Turkey, in off-white,
from Joann Fabrics a couple of years ago.

As I started typing the details of my vignette, I realized
that I have a few Etsy purchases included here,
so why not spread a little Etsy love too?

I purchased the sweet fabric pumpkin on Etsy a few years ago,
the shop can be found here.
The bottles in the basket came from Michaels this past summer,
and I believe my amber turkey was another
Joann Fabrics find a few years ago.

The burlap runner was also an Etsy purchase.
It's a great runner and I think it's the perfect base for my vignette.
The Etsy shop can be found here.

Hanging out in the background of my vignette is this cutie,
my Give Thanks pillow, from the hands of the
very talented Ann of On Sutton Place.
I love this pillow!
Her Etsy shop can be found here.

Thanks for stopping by!

The Year in Review 2012- Part 3

I hope you are enjoying my 2012 Year in Review posts.

I've enjoyed looking back, seeing what I accomplished this year,
although it has been hard choosing which
posts to feature.

This is my 3rd and final part of The Year in Review.
If you would like to check out Part 1 and Part 2
here are the links...Part 1, Part 2.

Let's see, I believe I left off with September.

In September 2012,

This one might be a good post to review
if you missed it, especially if you need a laugh.

Also in September,
our home was featured at Debbiedoos
for her home tours.

I was both honored & crippled with fear
at sharing our home with all of you.   lol
The kind comments left here & at Debbiedoos
touched my heart!  You girls are the best!

In October 2012,

I sewed this cute Jack the Pumpkin pillow.

October was a month for weddings...
my niece got married
and

the Mister & I celebrated our 20th anniversary!

In November 2012,

I put together a fall tablescape...

I also made these cute & silly candy bar wrappers

in honor of Thanksgiving.

In December 2012,

I got warmed up for the holiday baking season
and
 I shared a holiday favorite,

 2012 was an excellent year.
Thank you so much for being here with me.
I appreciate each & every one of you!

Here's to an awesome 2013!

Pilgrim Candy Bar Wrappers

I had to get a little crafting done in honor of Thanksgiving.

I thought I'd have some fun with it too.

I've had this link in my inspiration file for years now and decided it was time to use it.
(Oh yes, my inspiration file...you know, where I stored images I liked before Pinterest was even a twinkle in some genius' eye.)

Click here for the link to the pattern you see below (by Laurie Furnell):

But being me, and always having to make things difficult,  I couldn't just print this pattern, cut it out, and assemble.    Oh no, I had to cut the whole thing apart & make my own pieces!

Once I made this pilgrim boy, I couldn't stand not having a pilgrim girl to go along with him.

They now remind me of my daughter and son.  :)

I would have liked to make one of these for each place setting at Thanksgiving dinner, but that means I'd have to whip out 11 more by Thursday and I don't really see that happening.   Maybe next year...if I start earlier.

It's almost time for Turkey Day!!   Are you ready?

Thanksgiving Mantel

Last month, I posted my Halloween mantel.
(A first for me as I have never put a Halloween mantel together.)

After I put the Halloween decorations away,
I was left with an empty mantel and
a decision to make....
put my Fall mantel back up or come up with a Thanksgiving mantel?
Hmmmm....
a Thanksgiving mantel it is!
(Another first for me.)

Hard to believe, but everything I used, I already had.
I love it when that happens!

I purchased the pilgrim couple at TJ Maxx
after Thanksgiving a few years ago.
I love them!

I had to include this last photo below
because I have a story to tell.

I bought these wooden characters 19 years ago.
A coworker's Mom made them and I was so happy
to have these small Thanksgiving related pieces.
At the time, there really wasn't much in the way of
Thanksgiving decor for sale anywhere.
I have always placed them on the fireplace as shown.

This year,  however, I left the characters in the box.
Honestly, they really aren't my style anymore,
so I thought I would just pack them away.

After I finished the mantel, my son came to me
and here is our conversation:

Johnny:   Why aren't those wooden pilgrims on the mantel?
Me:  I wasn't going to put them out this year; I'm not really crazy about them.
Johnny:  But they belong on the mantel like always.
Me:  Ok, I'll go get them.

So, out of the box they came
and onto the mantel, like always.
Far be it from me to mess with like always.

Plenty Thankful

In my attempt to give Thanksgiving its due,
I thought I'd share a vignette I put together on my vintage blue dresser.
{Are you getting the idea that I love this dresser?}

I kept this vignette in very muted tones.

I like the way the muted tones look against the chippy blue paint.

Of course, you can't have a Thanksgiving vignette
without a little turkey, now can you?

I've been visiting so many of you
and there seems to be a general consensus
throughout blogland...

...there is plenty to be thankful for!

Season of Thanksgiving

Hi Friends!

I haven't been a very good blogger lately, I know.
Sandy rolled in & my blogging mojo rolled out.
Today was the first day we've seen the sun since Sandy,
(granted it was only 27 degrees this morning)
so I took a picture or two to share with you.

Let's kick off this season of Thanksgiving
with a little something on the chalkboard, shall we?

I actually had a few crazy seconds over the weekend
where I thought I might skip over decorating for Thanksgiving
and just move right into Christmas.
Fortunately, I came to my senses! :D

One has to feel sorry for poor old Thanksgiving.
It always gets overshadowed by Christmas, but not here!
No siree!
Thanksgiving shall have its day!

So tell me,
am I alone in my devotion to Thanksgiving?
