After all these years that I've been blogging,
 I can finally say that I have a button to call my own.

Filling a Vacancy (Crooked Planter)

When we landscaped our front yard some 10 years ago, 

we planted a blue cypress tree that did not fair well over the winter months. 

So much snow falling off the roof damaged it beyond repair,

so we had to remove it.

The spot where said tree was located has remained vacant for quite a few years. 

I don't know why, but we never replanted anything there.

Every summer, I would add a large pot of flowers, but nothing ever really

showed up well in that spot for some reason.   

So, I did what every other self-respecting Pinteresting blogger does...I found

something I liked and wanted to copy.  

Oh I can hear the remarks from my husband still ringing in my ears....  

"There is no way this is going to work."

"It'll never hold up without falling down."

"How are they going to stay like that with nothing holding them in place?"

Blah, blah, blah!   

I love that man, but sometimes he can be a kill joy!

He did help me with the project though.

 Or maybe I should be truthful and say, he did all the work and I just

supervised him.  Now I'm not sure if his help was genuine or he was

just waiting to say, "I told you so." 

So far so good.

Just the thing to fill that empty spot!

My husband was surprised it actually worked and what's

even better is that he really likes it. 

I had to laugh when he & I were out in public last week 

and an old friend of ours remarked how much he loved our crooked pots. 

Ha!  I promptly thanked him for saying

just the right thing in front of just the right person!

In the past few weeks, I have received two blog awards.

The first was from Judy at JBigg's Little Pieces.  Judy gave me the Kreativ Blogger Award.

Now, let's get down to the nitty gritty.

One award requires me to post 10 random things about myself and the other requires 7.   I say we average them and go for 8.5 things about me.  Okay?

Warning:   I am in no way a  fascinating person and this is always hard because I'm trying to share facts that I haven't shared from previous awards.   So here goes nothing.  I hope I don't bore you to tears.

1.  I am the youngest of four children.  My siblings were quite a bit older than me so I was spoiled, spoiled, spoiled by my siblings and my parents.

2.  I hate flying and haven't been on a plane since 1996.

3.  I once painted my kitchen cabinets at 2 o'clock in the morning because I couldn't sleep.

4.  I am afraid of frogs....terrified may be a better word.

5.  I often start writing books in my head. 

6.  I love fashion so much, that it's probably a blessing that I'm not tall & thin or else I'd be broke!  lol

7.  I'm still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. 

8.  I prefer peanut butter on my pancakes.

.5  I was born in 19_ _.  Thank goodness for that 1/2 fact! 

One award's rules would like for me to pass this onto 15 bloggers, the other says 10.  So again, I would like to average the two and go for 12.5. 

However.....I know there are so many of you who have Award Free blogs and so many who have already received these awards, so how about if I be a rebel, and not pass the award on?  Or better yet, if you would like one or both of these awards, let me know & I will gladly pass the torch to you.  Deal?

Three Cheers for the Red, White & Blue Tablescape

I'm always so surprised with how quickly the 4th of July arrives each year.  It probably has something to do with the fact that we get out of school so late in June, that we're barely out & it's already July 4th!

I just had to play with my dishes, I couldn't resist.  So here comes my tablescape...Three Cheers for the Red, White & Blue!



I found the cute bowls at Target in their Dollar Spot.

I have had the tablecloth & placemats for many, many years.  Blue napkins, red plates and wicker stars are all from Pier 1.  Luncheon plate is Corelle.  Dotted Glasses are from Target. 

And then there is my star spangled flatware!  I purchased this on ebay last Fall.    I got such a great deal on it, the cost of the shipping was more than my winning bid for the actual flatware!  I think I danced around the computer that day because I was so happy that I got a deal for once.  lol   

Simple white hydrangeas in a patriotic bowl.  I added star picks for a little sparkle.  

I just had to take this last picture because I thought it was funny how my Meyda Tiffany light matched the whole red, white & blue theme.

What is it about red, white & blue that I love so much?

In all honesty, I have used a clothespin to tie my curtains back before.

I wanted to get them out of the way of the window air conditioner.

I was just not as clever as Theresa to make them look pretty like this though.
